The Sincerity Project #1 (2014)
The Sincerity Project is a 24-year iterative performance experiment that captures the passage of time and its impact on the bodies, minds, and experiences of a group of individuals over two and half decades. The project gathers the same ensemble of creator-performers every two-to-three years to build a new installment of the project, and each installment is its own devised work of theater that captures the changes in the ensemble’s lives and in the world.
An ambitious and audacious undertaking, each installment is a unique endeavor that, over time, has begun to serve as a kind of creative archiving practice, inviting both the performers and audience to mark the passage of time. Alongside each installment’s performance, audience members are invited to write “letters to future selves,” which we hold onto until the next installment. Sincerity is creative in its exploration of personal and communal reflection and engagement practices, ultimately inviting its artists and audience to sincerely engage with the harrowing, beautiful, and complex realities that come with the passage of time. For more in depth information and documentation of each installment, visit Team Sunshine Performance.
