The Croning

The Croning, led by facilitator and artist Shavon Norris and created with and for Black women in Philadelphia, considers the particularities, pleasures, frustrations, and physical experiences of aging. The word “croning” is defined as the celebration of an older woman's age, especially in a special ceremony. The project begins with exploratory workshops with older Black women (60+ years old) and middle aged Black women (40-60 years old) that will then be shaped into a performance (performed by the participants) followed by a facilitated conversation for a larger community of Black women in Philadelphia.

Coming in 2026
